Copying files in INTERDUBS is very easy. See copy for details of the operation. When you create a quickReel files will also be copied for you. This has the advantage that you can edit meta data or icon without altering the source.

Copied files

Files that have been created by a copy operation are being indicated by a in the file listing next to their size.

Copied files and quickReel

As of October 2011 copied files are being evaluated in quickReel again. Copies are still being ignored though.

This is no longer true: Copied files are not being presented in the quickReel function, unless you select a source folder. See QuickReel#Restrict_folders.

Copy generation

An original file has a copy generation value of 0. The first copy is 1. When this file gets copied again then it is 2. And so forth.

It is possible to reset / update the copy generation for each file via the edit file screen.


Copy generation 1000

In March 2011 the copy generation feature got introduced. All previous files were analyzed that this point: If the same content was detected in multiple files than the older instance received a copy generation of 0 while all other ones were set to 1000.


Copy generation and storage charges

INTERDUBS does not charge for files being copied. The Copy generation parameter has no influence on this measure.

Space

Copied files are only being counted once when the system evaluates the amount of storage space used.


Search / Lookup

The edit file screen offers a search#md5_checksum against the md5 checksum of the file that will allows the easy lookup of all identical file copies.
