Icon

An icon frame can be created from the content or uploaded for it. The size will be pre-generated to match multiple designs and purposes. The icon aspect ratio can be controlled by a configuration setting.

movies

Clips will receive an icon frame automatically after they have been uploaded at the configured time. The edit icon from movie function let's you pick a new frame from the clip afterwords. This function gets used to frequently that it is already reachable from the file/folder listing.

The time point for icon frames can be set in various ways:

Numbers

If you enter a number with or without fractions then INTERDUBS will use this value as seconds

Timecode

You can enter the timepoint via SECS:FRAMES or HOURS:MINUTES:SECS:FRAMES format

Percentage

You can also specify the time point as a percentage relative to the lenght of the clip by entering a number followed with a percentage sign. The global default is at 30%.

Interactive

You can also interactively choose the frame that will make the icon. Use the select icon function.

upload

In about 2% of all clips Interdubs fails to generate an icon frame from the uploaded movie. It still can play, but the codec does upset something in the code.

There are also many file types where Interdubs does not generate an icon. For all these cases the Upload Icon function is helpful: You can upload a jpeg file that will be used as the icon for the file. You find this function under the Edit icon.

Also folders can have icons via this method.

You can also assign an image for a Client Login that will be displayed in the client interface.

Failed Icon creation

Sometimes the INTERDUBS system can not create an icon from a movie.

PDF

As of July 7 2009 better technology takes care of PDF icon rendering. It should be as reliable as the rest of the system now.

Movie clip causes

Either the clip is of an unknown format or the bandwidth of the clip is not high enough. Please allow at least 1200 Kbit/s for h.264 encoded videos

Work around

No matter what the reason for a missing icon is, you can upload any image manually as an icon. Do so via the upload icon function.

On an Apple computer you can easily create an icon image by pressing shift-command-4 and than dragging over the desired screen area.
