Please let us help you
INTERDUBS looks and configurations are a powerful feature. We are more than happy to help you, to make your INTERDUBS pages look just the way you like them.
We can show you how to update the design of your client pages yourself. Or we can do this for you. Please get in touch.
Deploying a new look
Applying a new look is quiet simple. Please see Applying a new Look for details.
Look classes
With a look you control the behavior of your client pages. There are 2 main types of client pages:
Reel Looks
A quickReel look will only display video or audio files playable in a browser. It will ignore other file types or folders. Usually a reel will play clips one after the other.
In INTERDUBS a reel look will be indicated by the following icons
Reel (shared)
Reel (your segment only)
Clip resize
INTERDUBS resizes the clips in quickReel looks automatically. See reel clip resize mode for details and ways to alter this behavior.
Work in Progress look
A work in progress look presents all files. Often sub folders are used to structure the content.
In INTERDUBS a work in progress look will be indicated by the following icons:
WIP (shared)
WIP (your segment only)
On a work in progress page there can be the ability to add comments.
Looks showing no content
Some looks have special purposes. If I a look has a client web page defined, but does not show content at all then it will be indicated by the following icon:
no content display
Looks not defining a client view
Sometimes a look does not define a client web view at all, but rather controls other aspects of the system. Looks of this class have no identifying icon. For instance there is a look for specific mail layout.
These modular looks are often being used in look stack.
Look selection
The system will remember the last look you used.
This is done for each admin user individually.
Look selection for reel and login creation is being remembered separately for each admin user.
You can review and reset your current choices under personal configuration.
A root admin can change the setting via the manage admins screen under utilities
Should you not have used a look yet then the system will behave in the following way:
Look selection Logins
If a looks name starts with the word
default ...
then it will be selected when you create a new login via the add-login screen and have not selected a different look before.
If you start a look name with
always default ...
then INTERDUBS will always select this look on the add-login screen.
Looks selection Reels
The first look called
quickReel
will be selected when you create a new reel and have not selected a look before. A rep user has a limited selection of look choices.
The system will remember your choices that you made for your look selection.
purpose of looks
A look in INTERDUBS is a collection of configuration paramaters. You can set for instance a different look for a specific purpose of interdubs. Or a client of yours that you do repeat business with has specific requirements for the way their Interdubs segments work.
You can create as many looks as you like.
You can find the manage looks screen in the utils menu.
add
You can add a new look with the add new look button. Once you gave the look a name it will appear in the look listings.
delete
You can delete the look.
look stack
the icon will bring you to the #look_stacks settings for this look.
Pre look stacks are listed in green type and round brackets before the look name, Post looks are listed after the name in red type.
edit
Or modify it's settings with the edit look function.
copy
If you like to create a look based on an existing one then you can use the copy look function.
hide / reveal
Over time looks in INTERDUBS can become obsolete. In the same time they might be referenced by logins or might be valuable as a comparison. That's why the can be hidden now. A hidden look will have a dark background in the looks listings under tools. And it will not be offered in screens that allow the selection of a look (quickReel and edit / add login at this point).
Click on the icon to hide a look, and on
to reveal it again.
modification time
In order to manage looks better they started to have a modification date in August 2008. Looks that were created before that will not have a date listed.
global looks
Global looks are indicated by a purple color of their name. They are templates that are set out as a starting point. In order to use them it is recommended to create a look of your own and then include the global look via a lookstack:
Setup
You can use a global look in 3 different ways:
Use as is
You can simply assign global look to any login / reel that you like.
Copy to use
You can copy a global look via the
copy look
function. Once you copied a look it will be no different than one that you made from scratch. Changes to the template will not affect your copy.
Use via Lookstack
If you like to use a look, change some values, but also would like to benefit from future updates to the global look you can use a look stack:
1. utils -> looks -> add look
2. create the look that you like to use the global look as, you can use the same name, a similar one, whatever you like.
3. go to the lookstack screen for your new look at reference your desired global look via a negatve number like -1. The global look will be loaded before the actual look you have created will be applied. So you have the ability to override configurations if you like to.
Logo
Global looks have a logo place holder that you can configure with your logo. See logo for details.
reel 01 small low thumbnails
A look that employs the QuickReel mechanism to show the contents of a folder: All quicktimes in that folder will be played one after the other. Their icons can be found below on the screen.
An example how this look starts out:
http://interdubs.com/s/example/reel01
reel 02 small high thumbnails
Alternatively you can also display the icons on top of the page:
http://interdubs.com/s/example/reel02
Of course, and this is true for all these examples: The INTERDUBS logo is only a placeholder for your logo file.
reel 02 large high thumbnails
This look has 140 pixel wide thumbnails that are, like in reel 02 small high thumbnails' are display in the top of the page.
http://interdubs.com/s/example/reel02large
reel 03 text buttons
This look features the same icons on the bottom edge on the screen, but it sports a less symmetric approach for the content area:
http://interdubs.com/s/example/reel03
While reel 01 and reel 02 will use the colors of your segment by default, reel 03 comes with a pre defined color palette. Of course you can override it with the one that match your companies identity.
It often looks best if the big text controls have a color that differs only slightly from the background. These colors are being controlled via IDXHTML_COL03 for the normal, and by IDXHTML_COL02 for the rollover state.
reel 04 single clip
If you want to send just one clip then thumbnails are not needed. This look takes care of that, and ensures that your work is in the center of the attention.
Here is the example:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/single
This look will adhere to the colors of your segment again. But it often looks best if the big text controls have a color that differs only slightly from the background. These colors are being controlled via IDXHTML_COL03 for the normal, and by IDXHTML_COL02 for the rollover state.
reel 05 vertical
A look that is -as of 11/08- still evolving. As you can see it has the icons on the left of the screen:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/reel05
review and approval 01 vertical
This look shows all spots in one column. Have a look:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/review01
All files and folders will be displayed here.
review and approval 02 horizontal
The intention of this look is it to show as many elements as possible on a clients page. Since listing clips in 2 dimensions is confusing to most people this lists each clip / element in its own row.
You can run this look either with or without icons.
With small icons this looks like:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/review02
Without icons this look looks like:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/review02noicons
review and approval 03
"review and approval 03" is an example of a more designed INTERDUBS look:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/review03
upload only
With this look you can allow your clients and contributors to upload files. Sinc this look does not list the contents of what has been uploaded before it can be used as a drop box. For more information on client side uploads see Client side uploads.
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/uploadonly
Please get in touch if you would like us to adopt the upload only look to the design of your other INTERDUBS pages.
image gallery 01
If you like to present many still images on one page then use this look. An example of how it can look:
http://www.interdubs.com/s/example/gallery01
This example also illustrates INTERDUBS ability to insert markup and sections in your folders to separate sections or to create sub categories without the need of having to create folders. See IDXINSERTHTML for details.
look stacks
A look can reference other looks via a so called look stack. You manage which looks are being referenced via the look_stack screen for each look.
In this screen you will see all other looks. When you enter a number in front of the look name then it will be added to the look. Negative numbers will be used before the actual look that. Positive numbers after.
The number also creates the order in that looks are being referenced. Later settings overwrite previous ones. Look stacks expand the configuration evaluation to this:
global settings segment wide settings lookstack pre look look lookstack post look login
The idea is that you can change certain settings or, create a simple variation of a look. When you then alter the source many settings might just 'shine through' as intended.
