Folder Controlled Expiration

A file can have an expiration date set. After this date it will become invisible / inaccessible in the client interface.

Expiration dates are often set relative to the date of upload / creation of a file. See Expiring media for details.

Setting folder based Expiration

You control. the expiration of a folder on the

 edit folder

screen. It can be either a time like

6 weeks

or

5 days

or you can set the field to

never

so that uploaded files will never expire.

Improved Space management

The default expiration can be set via a configuration. It can be beneficial to control the expiration of content on a folder basis: Different areas of INTERDUBS might require different expiration policies.

Reel source area use

A source area for reels and other content that is of a more permanent nature can have an expiration of 'never'.

Likewise could work in progress folders have a shortened expiration to manage space more efficiently.

Folder controlled expiration

Any folder can have a folder controlled expiration value. It is important to note that this value is NOT controlling the expiration of the actual folder. Folder controller expiration affects all files uploaded inside of the folder.

If folder controlled expiration is set then this will set the expiration date of the file when it is uploaded. It is not possible to override the expiration date controlled by the folder. The system indicates the effective expiration on the upload screen.

Folder hierarchy

INTERDUBS will look in all folders that a file will be in for a setting for folder controlled expiration. It will use the topmost value that it finds. Imagine you upload a file into the folder

/ClientA/ProjectX/delivery01

INTERDUBS will see if it finds a folder controlled expiration for ClientA. If it does then it will use this value. If not then it will check for ProjectX, and if that is not set either finally go to delivery01. Should there be nothing set on these levels then the configuration default will be used and it can be overridden.

Values to use

If the field for folder controlled expiration is empty then the folder will not control the expiration of files created within that folder. Remove the value is therefor also the way to remove an existing folder controlled expiration.

Folder controlled expiration is being set in matters of time durations. These have the form like

number timespan

Where number is any integer number greater than one (1,2,3 ... ) And timespan is one of the following

seconds
minutes
hours
days
weeks
months

months are being treated like 30 days here.

no expiration

If you enter

never

or

none

in the folder controlled expiration field then all files uploaded into any sub folders will default to have no expiration. This can be helpful for quickReel source folders for instance.
