Email tracking

INTERDUBS can track which email address a visitor came from. We believe that visitor tracking is something that people should have the choice to do not, so that they can implement a privacy policy that is right for them and their clients.

The actual choices depend on the fact if an email goes to a single or multiple recipients:

Multiple recipients

Sending a link to multiple recipients will display 4 choices below the email text:

send each person individual email with email tracking default
send each person individual email without tracking
send each person individual email, list in email who has received it and add tracking
send one email to everybody, show recipients in email header and do not track

The four menu settings combine multiple feature choice in a meaningful way:

sending each person individual email

(Option 1-3)

The system generates an email for each recipient. It is possible to add tracking if desired. The system can add a line in the content of the email sent that lists all recipients.

sending one email to every recipient

(Option 4)

The system sends the same email to multiple recipients. They will be listed in the email header. Since there is only one email content tracking of individual recipients is not possible.

When tracking is desired and possible then each visit will list the recipient email address in the logs. Tracking is helpful and can yield insightful information.

We believe that a system needs to give people the choice to express the privacy policy that best aligns with their their client relationships, etc. Therefor INTERDUBS offers the choice to generate emails that contain links that have no tracking component in them. This is also helpful if the link in an email has been generated for general / public consumption like PR or other such applications.

Single recipient

Sending a link via INTERDUBS to a single recipient will display 2 choices below the email text:

send mail with track code. Log will show recipient_email_address_here for visits default
send mail without tracking code

With the second choice the logs screen will displays well as the email log

email choice preferences / company email policy

Usually the system will remember a users choice on how to send out single and multiple recipients emails. It is possible to set a company email policy that will be used instead of the last choice that an admin made. The configuration for company email policy has the following options:

use last selected choice or default
send each person individual email, list in email who has received it and add tracking
send each person individual email with email tracking
send one email to everybody, show recipients in email header and do not track
send each person individual email without tracking

Please note that the order of the options is different from that in the actual email screen.

When an email goes to a single recipient the system will see if an option with tracking is selected will allow tracking respectively.

This configuration allows it to set a company (or look / login ) wide policy that will set the default while in the same time giving people the chance to alter the functionality for a single mailing.

The system indicates if a company policy was used to set the value that the options were set in the admin interface.

A user can override the setting manually for each email if needed.

Sending email with your own program

If you enter an email address and then click on the

SEND email with your own email program

on the first email screen then you still have email tracking abilities in the links that the system generated.


Multiple recipients

When you send an email to multiple recipients you can choose if you like to send an email that will respond to a REPLY ALL as expected or not. Emails that work with REPLY ALL can not have email tracking.


Visitor notification

You can have INTERDUBS send you an email when the person that received the link looks at it for the first time. Subsequent visits will not create another email.

In order to use this feature make sure to have the setting

when client visits send notification

enabled on the second email screen below the email text.


The Format of these notification emails can be configured via a configuration that is called

visit notification email body

Its default starts out like:

IDXHMTL_NTE_EMAIL just visited your page "IDXHMTL_NTE_LOGINNAME" 

On this page:
IDXHMTL_NTE_LOGLINK
you can  see which clips have been watched etc.

The actual page:

The format of these emails can be changed via the configuration 'visit notification email body'


The keywords have the following meaning:

IDXHMTL_NTE_DATE Date when the person visited your link
IDXHMTL_NTE_EMAIL email address of the visitor
IDXHMTL_NTE_LOGINNAME name of the login / reel you sent
IDXHMTL_NTE_LOGLINK link to the log page in the admin interface 
IDXHMTL_NTE_URL link to the page that the visit did go to
IDXHMTL_NTE_CNAME short (link) name of your INTERDUBS segment

Download notification

A download link email can also generate an email. The format uses the same keywords as the visitor notification with one addition:

IDXHTML_NTE_FILENAME will be replaced by the first file downloaded. 


In order for this feature to work make sure that visitor tracking is enabled.

The format of the admin notification email is currently:


IDXHMTL_NTE_DATE
