Web playback

INTERDUBS can play clips via different technologies.

INTERDUBS has a configuration called

web playback

that can be set to the following values. Below you can find a description of the different players.

HTML5 only

INTERDUBS will always use HTML5 for the playback of clips.

HTML5 auto

INTERDUBS will use HTML5 - unless the browser does not support playback of h264 video. This is currently the case with Firefox. Clips in Firefox will be played back via quicktime.

QT auto

INTERDUBS will use Quicktime - unless the browser does not support quicktime. This is currently the case with Chrome, Safari Version 9 or higher, Android or Windows. Clips will playback in HTML5 in this ever growing list of cases.

QT only

INTERDUBS will also use Quicktime to play back movie clips.

flowplayer

INTERDUBS will use the flowplayer to playback clips.

Below you can find details about the players that INTERDUBS can use to play content.

quicktime

Apples quicktime can be used to play many different file formats. Unfortunately Chrome no longer supports Quicktime. Regardless of the webplay configuration quicktime will be used if the client URL contains

html5

Modern browsers can directly play clips via the video tag. Unfortunately Firefox can not play back files that are encoded via the h264 codec.

Currently INTERDUBS will disable Play_in_page when playback is set to use HTML5

Regardless of the webplay configuration HTML5 will be used if the client URL contains

flowplayer

Flowplayer is an alternative player that uses Flash technology to play back clisp. Regardless of the webplay configuration HTML5 will be used if the client URL contains

Feedback

INTERDUBS can show a feedback form on the play page (that also allows setting a comment). This form also has links to switch between the different players. This feature can be enabled via the

show playback feedback form on add comment page
