INTERDUBS supported the iPhone four weeks after its release.
When INTERDUBS detects that the client connects with an iPhone then it can switch the navigation to a style that is more appropriate for the device.
If you disable the configuration setting
iPhones see compatible navigation
then iPhones see normal client pages again.
The look and feel of the iPhone navigation pages can be set by the the configuration setting
iPhone header
In this configuration you can style the page via CSS tags.
Clip conversion
When the iPhone came out in 2007 the requirements for clips that would be playable were quiet narrow. The max resolution and bandwidth were considerable less than that of clips for general web viewing.
INTERDUBS addressed this by automatically converting clips into the right format for the iPhone.
Recent models however have the screen resolution, processing power and bandwidth to playback the same clip quality that is used on computers and tables. The required encoding (h.264) is a wide spread standard.
Reflecting this, there are 3 playback modes for the iPhone:
converted clips
clips will get converted into the right format
original clips
the clips that got uploaded will be displayed
looped original clips
the original clips will be played via HTML5 in safari. They will loop in this player. Safari requires the user to click on the play icon on the clip to start playback.
The default of this setting got changed from converted clips to looped original clips on February 8th 2013.
Simulation in browser
You can simulate the iPhone page that INTERDUBS will generate in a browser by adding
&iPhone=1
to the URL of the client page.
