Purpose

Sometimes clips do not have been encoded in the way you need them.

INTERDUBS can transcode them for you into a format and size that works better for your needs.

Usage

Transcoding is simple:

Navigate to the folder that contains the clips in question.

select the clips like you to transcode

select transcode

from the choices that appear on top of the table.

On the next screen you choose from the configured encoding choices and launch the transcode via an INTERDUBS task.

The transcoded file will appear in the same folder than the original was in. The source file will be kept in the source folder, and its name will have ' before transcoding appended to it. You can choose to hide the source clips.

INTERDUBS will notify you when the transcoding is done. Usually transcoding is faster than realtime plus maybe a minute of processing overhead. Should you not see clips appear, then you can go to utilities -> tasks to see if maybe other tasks are ahead of yours.

Transcode choices

Transcode settings can be changed and configured. The system starts with the following default options:

Default settings

The first two choices are usually recommended:

2.5Mb/s mp4
2.5Mb/s mp4 1280 pixels wide

Both encode with h264 in a mp4 container format. The difference is that the second one will resize the video to be 1280 pixels wide. The height will be automatically adjusted to maintain the original aspect ratio.

h264

There are 3 settings that will re encode the file with the h264 video codec and that will use AAC for audio.

The 3 settings will use the original extension of the file. The flavors vary in the the bandwidth they require and in the resulting visual quality:

1.2Mb/s h264
2.4Mb/s h264
5.5Mb/s h264

mp4

With this setting the file will be put into a mp4 container. This is the proper setting for Windows phone and a range of other mobile devices.

1.8Mb/s
1.2Mb/s

wmv

The clip will be converted into a wmv format

2Mb/s wmv

custom configurations

Since there are many choices and options we have made the configuration for this part of the system very flexible.

Please get in touch if you need a specific file output. We will be happily creating this for you.

The configuration for transcode settings contains a line for each choice. If you understand ffmpeg paramters then you could change / add settings yourself. Please note that changed settings can only be used after INTERDUBS has approved them. Please get in touch if you need us to approve your modifications.
